egging – fixing crash or malfunctioning “again-button”

December 1, 2011 in Apples, egging

I’ve seen this behaviour too after updating to iOS 5 and newer. I’ve also seen similar malfunctions on many other apps after updating iOS. Seems the apples;-) messed around with something in the iOS. To fix it you can try 2 approaches. Method 1: Switch off your iOS device by holding lock-screen button for some seconds (a switch-off slider will be displayed). Then restart your device. If this doesn’t help. Use method 2: Delete the app, then re-download/re-install the app. It might be necessary to apply “method 1″ once more.

Sorry for this inconvenience.

the new iPad - fits zeitgeist perfectly

the new iPad - mind blowing

Apple’s new can-do-all-device. iPad runs iphone games out of the box in original resolution or pixel doubled (full screen). Display is 9’7 (1024*768). 1GHz A4 Apple CPU, upto 64GB flash memory, WiFi + 3G, 802.11n, Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR. It weighs 1.5 pounds. 40 days standby 10 hours battery. Looks pretty much like iPhone just larger. It has a keyboard dock. costs from 499 to 829 $. The accessories make really functional sense. This is the device you would get to relax reading your epapers and ebooks sitting in your leCorbusier lounge chair. But wait, you should think of getting 4 of these, at least. Otherwise you will never get the chance to enjoy your chair session. Your wife needs it urgently to check the recepies, your kids must play. Don’t forget your mums and dads. Thats life! Apple opened Pandoras Money Box. Is Apple going to offer family packages?

iPhone 4G Magic, iPod Touch 4G Magic – The Next Big Spec

Speculating: Was the Magic Mouse only the beginning?
Looking at the picture above you will discover 3 things with iPhone 4G Magic:
A. The backside looks similar to Magic Mouse Touch surface. Assuming the next iPhone and iPod Touch will have a seamless Magic Mouse Touch surface supporting gestures this could give additional control in games, maybe even replacing usage of fingers with the touch screen if necessary.
B. The camera is centered. Why? Because of AR (Augmented Reality). It’s technically more optimal. Is Apple going to support high-end AR on the iDevices natively? Thinking about this makes me shiver from joy. I’ve got a sack full of ideas just waiting for it.
C. The iDevices are going to have an HD Video Cam and 5MP Photo Cam. Crazy!
D. Battery life doubled again. Thank you!
E. Larger Display resolution. 960×640 with higher ppi?
Is it iPhone Magic or iPod Magic on the pic? I can’t determin that. Actually, I wish they would deliver just one(!) model. One affordable phone-enabled device with cam! I would prefer this instead of the other stuff (DSi, PSP, Cell Phone) giving to my kids, wife and for sure to myself :-) . More comfort, less electronic waste. If Apple isn’t going to make this happen. Maybe Google should. This would be definitely an USP for a future Google Phone: the All-in-One-Device, affordable and replacing all other devices! Hey google, you could still make a lot of money by selling additional value through software. Don’t be evil, think different!

No need of Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN or EIN) for german iPhone developers selling on US App Store

A few days ago I’ve contacted Apple’s finance department to get more precise information on how apps by foreign developers and related tax will be treated in the US App Store. Actually I was asking for german developers. Apple responded. And it seems not to be a problem at all “…since the App Store contracts are characterized as a ‘sales/commission’ agreement, as opposed to a ‘royalty’ agreement, there is no tax withholding for sales in the US App Store. …  , you are not required to obtain a new US Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN or EIN) if you do not already have one.” I could hardly believe this as the information given in iTunes Connect seems to point in another direction or maybe I simply misunderstood? So I asked further questions 2 times but the answer was the same. I hope it’s all true, no guarantees! So us happy german developer guys won’t have to care about TINs. Happy selling :-)

More than 100000 apps…

Around 100000 apps in Apple’s Apps Store. Let’s guess 20% are games, this makes 20000 games. Thats a neat number! Please compare approximately 1200 game titles in the NDS store.
How much is a game in iTunes? Cheap 0,99$ upto expensive 7,99$. How much are games for DSi? Bargains 10$ upto regular sale 32$. How much is an iPod? 199$. A DSi? 169$. At first iPod looks more expensive but games are much cheaper even high quality titles. Don’t forget the many “free” and “lite” titles. Pretty sure you will end up spending a lot of your time testing and playing the lites. And what I like most: fresh and inventive indie games.

IMO Nintendo is still kind of sleeping inspite of the recent announcement considering Apple as serious competitor. Also recently Nintendo’s CEO Satoru Iwata said it will take quite a long time for the industry to shift to downloadable games. What? Really? Didn’t it shift a while ago? What is Steam and Xbox Live then? And iTunes?

Taking a step back looking at the iDevice it appears to me Apples was accidentally lucky by introducing the iPod as Can-Do-A-Everything-Machine and thenafter pointing out that it’s actually a console for games. And what about Sony? Yeah, they sell the psp go for 245$ and it has some nice tech details, but games cost 36$ (upperclass games). Does it feel(!) like the device that can do everything? No, it’s quite close but doesn’t feel like that. Maybe Sony should have done the Can-Do-Everything officially not hiding it. Sony, think about the app store, think about iTunes. Your Media Go is still neither available for Mac nor Windows 7. And think why Apple can make money with its hardware but you can’t! Even worse: you loose more money with increasing sales.
